Understanding Your Roles

Your work roles say what kind of work you do. They are not permissions — what you are allowed to open in a workspace is set by your workspace role, which the owner manages. Work roles are lenses on your work: when you log time, you tag the entry with the hat you were wearing.

Available roles:

• Developer — projects, bugs, features and deployments.
• Marketing — campaigns, conversions and getting customers.
• Logistics — shipments, suppliers and delivery.
• Sales — deals, pipeline and client relationships.
• Design — design assets and their review status.
• Finance — budget items, income and expenses.
• Product — roadmap items and product plans.
• HR — open positions and hiring.
• Data — metrics you track over time.
• Customer Success — customer accounts and their health.

Roles are per workspace

You pick your roles separately in each workspace, up to 3 per workspace. You can be a developer in one workspace and run marketing in another. Changing roles in one workspace does not change any other.

To change your roles, click your name at the bottom of the sidebar and choose My work roles. Pick up to 3 and click Save changes in the bar at the bottom. What your roles change

• Work logs — the log form shows only your roles to choose from, and each role suggests its own categories.
• Modules — when the workspace has Role Modules turned on, the Modules entry in the sidebar shows a dashboard for each of your roles. Role modules start turned off in a new workspace; the owner turns them on in Workspace Settings → Features.
• AI — the Analyzer has a Role filter. Pick a role to look only at work logged for it, or keep All roles. Ask AI also has a mode for each role.

You can filter your daily work logs by role, and goals can carry a role too.

Changing your roles does not change old logs. Each log keeps the role it was saved with.
